How to Convert MOV to MKV With Free MKV Converter
MKV file is a Matroska file for Videos with audios and subtitles, and if you noticed there are two sentences outstanding at the MKV official homepage: “It is NOT a video or audio compression format (video codec); It is an envelope for which there can be many audio, video and subtitles streams, allowing the user to store a complete movie or CD in a single file.” In simple words through my understanding, it’s saying the format significantly features combination-only and envelope without file internal structure rebuilding and data recompressing. In other words, it’s a pure multimedia container format just as I mentioned above.
- Download and install the free MKV converter and launch it.
- Click Add button and highlight the MOV file before Open button clicked to add the MOV file you chose.
- Select the destination folder you are going to save the MKV file with Browse pressed.
-
- If you want to attach any other file into the output MKV file, there are also some options to do it. Cause the MOV format doesn't support subtitle adding, we chose a subtitle file for the trial. Going into the Attachments tab to add the attachment by clicking Add button. And never forget choose a file type under MIME type for the attachment.
- Of cause you can merge more other files as output, just press the Append button to repeat steps above.
- You can also choose to split the output file with huge size inside into more little ones. Just press into the Global tab, and select a proper size option under ...after this size after activated the Splitting section and Enable splitting....
-
- Right now, you can start converting MOV to MKV by click Start muxing button.
